Guidelines for Financial Assistance from the Robin Hood Foundation

The Townships of Ocean and Barnegat have been successful in securing a total of $150,000 in grant funding from the Robin Hood Foundation to assist residents with their Hurricane Sandy recovery work. The Robin Hood Foundation is a charitable organization that addresses poverty issues in the New York City Metropolitan area. However, Robin Hood has taken a special interest with helping victims of Hurricane Sandy and as a result, raised millions of dollars for relief efforts.

Presented below are some general guidelines for residents to apply for financial assistance from the Robin Hood Foundation. It is anticipated that request for assistance will exceed available funding, so all are urged to fully and properly completed the application form, provide all requested documentation and submit the completed application in a timely manner.

1. Request for financial assistance must be as a direct result of damage experienced from Hurricane Sandy.

2. Only primary residences are eligible for assistance. Second homes, investment properties and vacation homes are not eligible for funding.

3. Income restrictions do apply of up to $80,000 per household or $20,000 per family member for households with over four (4) family members.

4. According to Robin Hood funding guidelines, residents will NOT receive money or cash directly but will be provided a gift card to an appropriate vendor which will be either Home Depot and/or Lowe's Home Improvement stores, for appliances, construction materials and supplies required to recover from the storm. All appliances must be delivered by the vendor (Home Depot or Lowe's Home Improvement) personnel.

5. Robin Hood funding can also be used to pay contractors for work performed on your storm damaged residence. The Township will issue a purchase order directly to the contractor.  It will be done in two payments one to start the job and second payment at the end of project.  All contractor must be licensed by the State of New Jersey to qualify

6. Applications for assistance must be properly and fully completed. Incomplete applications will not be considered and could delay any potential financial assistance. All applications must have originalsignature(s).

7. Maximum amount of financial assistance will be based on the number of request received, but it is expected to be in the range of $500 to $5,000.00 per applicant.

8. Finally, if in doubt, please submit an application for assistance and allow the review process determine if eligibility requirements are satisfied.

All completed applications must be dropped off to the Township of Ocean Municipal Clerk's office located at 50 Railroad Avenue, Waretown, New Jersey 08758. Applications can be mailed to the above address if needed.
